Healthy food profits

Holland and Barrett, the retail health food chain, with 500 stores in UK, was named most profitable high street store, yesterday. The nearest rival in the profit margin stakes was River Island, the fashion chain.

The chain is owned by the US vitamin manufacturer NBTY.

The Managing Director of H&B, Peter Aldiss, said "We have tried to concentrate on products which are unique to us and to ensure that our staff are fully knowledgeable about all the products we sell." He insisted that he was not profiteering by charging high prices.
